Help and setup

Getting started with GF Builder

Install, activate and start building in about ten minutes. Stuck? Ask the chat in the corner or email [email protected].

Requirements

  • WordPress 6.8 or later and PHP 8.0 or later. That is the whole list.
  • A block theme. GF Base Theme is included and recommended.
  • No Node, npm or shell access on your host. Everything ships pre-built.

Install

  1. Sign in to your licence account and download the GF Builder plugin zip.
  2. In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the zip and click Install Now, then Activate.
  3. Activate GF Base Theme. GF Builder bundles it and tells you in the dashboard when a newer copy is available.

Activate your licence

Your GFB- licence key is emailed right after purchase. GF Builder asks for it on a new site before its blocks, patterns and page tools appear in the editor.

  1. In your licence account, register the website address.
  2. In WordPress, open GF Builder → Licence and paste the key.
  3. The blocks and patterns appear in the editor straight away.

Local, staging and .test addresses work without registering, so you can build before a site goes live. There is no limit on the number of sites.

Your first page

  1. Open GF Builder → Setup and work through the five first-run decisions. They are in the order that saves the most rework later.
  2. On GF Builder → Overview, choose a page type under Create a page, give it a title and create it.
  3. Edit it in the normal block editor. Sections come from the Patterns tab of the inserter, under the GF Builder categories.
  4. Build your menu from your pages on GF Builder → Navigation.

Updates

  • Updates arrive through the normal Plugins screen while your licence is current.
  • Click View details on the GF Builder row to read what changed, or see the full changelog.
  • Licensed sites can switch on WordPress auto-updates for GF Builder.
  • If you edited GF Base Theme files, they are saved to a backup zip in wp-content/gf-builder-backups before the theme updates.

If your licence lapses

Nothing on your site breaks. Once a site is activated it stays activated: every page keeps working and stays editable, and you keep the version you have. Only new updates stop until you renew.

Troubleshooting

The GF blocks are missing from the editor

The site has not been activated yet. Register the site address in your licence account, then enter your key in WordPress.

A section looks unstyled after I pasted HTML

Raw HTML with its own <style> or <script> bypasses GF's design system. Use the Import HTML panel in the GF Builder sidebar to convert it into blocks instead.

My form plugin looks different from the rest of the site

Place the form inside a GF Integration Slot block. GF restyles WPForms, Fluent Forms, Formidable and Gravity Forms to match.

Striped tables look wrong on a dark section

WordPress core's striped style hard-codes a light grey. Use the plain table style on dark backgrounds.
